Return to the Place: The Magic, Meditation, and Mystery of Sefer Yetzirah

By Rabbi Jill Hammer

Sunday, October 18, 2020
5-6:30pm EDT

Sefer Yetzirah is an ancient and foundational work of Jewish mysticism. This brief and cryptic book imagines letters as the building blocks of the universe, focusing our attention on the components of space, time, and soul and the elements of air, fire, and water. Its goal is to allow adepts to contemplate, and even partake in, the Divine creative process and fully experience God’s presence within the physical world. Rabbi Jill Hammer has created a new translation that emphasizes the text’s embodied mysticism, and transformed it into a contemporary guide for meditative practice.

Celebrate the publication of this unique book with an author interview, Q&A, original music rooted in the text’s words, a slideshow of images related to the book’s creation, and an opportunity to meditate on this mystical, and poetic text.

Featuring Rabbi Jill Hammer, Rabbi Dianne Cohler-Esses, Rabbi Shir Yaakov Feit, Eden Pearlstein, Kohenet Keshira haLev Fife, Rabbi Jay Michaelson, Eden Pearlstein, Kohenet Aliza Schechter, Chazzan Basya Schechter, Rav Kohenet Taya Shere, and friends!
